biogrraphy & introduce
Akin started his legal career with the law firm of Babalakin & Co (Nigeria), where he rose to the position of Senior Associate before he left to pursue further academic pursuits in the United Kingdom. Upon qualification as a Solicitor of England and Wales, he worked as in-house Counsel with City of London companies, where he was responsible for contract negotiations and drafting. Akin practised as a Solicitor in a number of firms where he appeared before arbitral tribunals in disputes relating to breach of supply agreements, infrastructure projects, debt securitisation as well as commercial contracts. He also worked with Lloyds of London wholesale insurance companies where he handled multi million dollars insurance claims.
Akin is one of the founding Partners of AIDAN Partners and the Head of the Dispute Resolution Group. He specialises in commercial litigation, arbitration, mediation, insurance, and aviation related disputes. He has appeared as Counsel in numerous arbitration proceedings both locally and internationally. He has appeared before all superior courts of record both in Nigeria, England and Wales. He regularly advises clients (private and public), on contract negotiations, disputes arising out of commercial contracts, independent power projects, aviation insurance, maritime as well as telecommunications agreements. He has been responsible for the successful enforcement of several arbitral awards in Nigeria against award debtors.
Akin is one of the few Fellows of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (UK) and the immediate past Treasurer of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (Nigeria) Branch. Akin is a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (UK) Approved Faculty
List, where he acts as a Trainer on the many international arbitration courses offered by the Institute. He is also the Secretary of the Section on Business Law (Insurance) of the Nigeria Bar Association. Akin is also member of the ICC and the Nigeria Indonesia Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
